I have had a daily yoga practice for over 20 years, and I have been a counselor for 50 years. This book is written in a beautiful, supportive, nurturing way. Anybody dealing with anxiety can benefit from its compassionate help.If you were looking for something with tons of yoga poses, this is not the book for you.Rather, it is a holistic inquiry into anxiety, and what supports you if you deal with it.There are plenty of yoga suggestions, as far as the postures are concerned, but its reach is beyond just asana. If you study yoga, you know that the physical postures are only one of the eight limbs of yoga. This book addresses some of the other ones as ways they can support a more authentic, self-accepting way of being, no matter what’s showing up.Anybody with anxiety knows that, while yoga can be incredibly healing to your mind and nervous system, other practices can also be supportive and helpful. This book is more comprehensive than simply a compendium of postures.I was a little surprised that there wasn’t more on restorative yoga, as I think that’s very calming, as is yin yoga, but the book was published in 2010, and yoga offerings have vastly increased their scope during the past 14 years. If you have anxiety, you know you want as large toolbox as possible, whether that ideally includes meditations, journaling, jin shin Jyutsu, herbal support, homeopathic and Bach remedies, and a myriad of other things.
